Fatima Qafoud is the Clinic Director of Qatar Biobank-QPHI. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences and an MBA from Qatar University (QU), where she is currently defending her PhD dissertation in Precision Medicine. Fatima has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the field of biobanking and medical research sectors significantly contributing to global health efforts, through her role in developing the National Reference Laboratory for COVID-19 testing, emphasizing stringent quality and safety standards to ensure accurate testing and participant privacy. With a strong background in laboratory management, she initiated the establishment of the Qatar Biobank Clinic and Laboratories. Under her guidance, these facilities have achieved international recognition, earning ISO certification and CAP accreditation. Fatima’s work also extends to health research governance, where she has been involved in developing national policies, regulations, and guidelines for the management of stored data and biological specimens in human research. This work has fostered a safe and innovative research ecosystem in Qatar, positioning the Biobank as a pioneer in the field within the Middle East region and globally.
