Eligibility Criteria: - Qatari National
- Long-term resident of 15 years or more
- Over the age of 18
What Will Participating Involve? - Having a series of measurements, such as height, weight, grip strength, blood pressure, body composition, heart and lung function.
- Giving samples of blood (about 60 milliliters, or around the same volume as a pocket-sized hand-sanitizer gel), urine, and saliva. All tests are entirely optional, and you can opt out at any point.
- Completing a questionnaire and provide some overall feedback on your experience at Qatar Biobank.
- Having a MRI scan for the whole body and brain during the second visit.
- Participants are entitled to a follow-up visit after five years.

The Qatari Birth Cohort study is the first mother-child cohort study in the Gulf that aims to assess the synergetic role of environmental exposure and genetic factors in the development of chronic diseases. The aim is to follow up 3,000 women during their pregnancy, at delivery and then follow up their children and father (triads: Mother-Child-Father) for a period of 5 years.
What is the purpose of this research?
This is a birth cohort epidemiological study where we prospectively observe women during their pregnancy, their children, and we also collect data from the father so as to determine the genetic and life-course influences on childhood health, development and/or common complex diseases development that may persist in adulthood. Therefore, the aim of the Qatar Birth Cohort project is to assess the synergetic role of environmental exposures and genetic factors in the development of chronic disease of woman and child health and/or obstetric characteristics with high prevalence in the state of Qatar. All the information we are going to collect will help us understand the causes of illness, which will help us to develop better ways of improving health and wellbeing.
