Dr. Omar Al Bagha  Board Member

Dr. Omar Albagha is the Acting Executive Director of the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) and a professor of genomic and precision medicine at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU). His research focuses on the genetic determinants of complex diseases, particularly type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. After earning his PhD in 2001, he held academic positions at the University of Aberdeen and the University of Edinburgh, where he led research in genetics of bone disease.  Dr. Albagha joined QBRI in 2017 and HBKU in 2019. He collaborates with Qatar Genome on disease-related genetics and has published in high-impact journals, receiving multiple prestigious awards and grants, including an ERC Consolidator fellowship.
