| Dr. Fatima M. Kafood is the Director of the Precision Health Cohort and Sample Platform at the Qatar Precision Health Institute (QPHI), Qatar Foundation. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Qatar University, where she also earned her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and an MBA. Her doctoral research focused on precision medicine and led to the establishment of the Middle East’s first familial Atrial Fibrillation cohort, marking an important milestone in regional cardiovascular genomics research. |
| With more than 20 years of experience in laboratory leadership and health research infrastructure, Dr. Kafood has played a significant role in advancing Qatar’s biomedical ecosystem. She led the establishment of Qatar’s National Reference Laboratory for COVID-19 testing during the pandemic, contributing to the country’s national response and testing capacity. |
| Dr. Kafood joined Qatar Biobank in 2013 and previously served as its Director. During her tenure, she led the development and operationalization of the biobank’s clinical and laboratory platforms, achieving ISO certification and CAP accreditation, and positioning the biobank as a regional leader in high-quality, internationally aligned biobanking. |
| Currently, she leads the national precision health cohort and biospecimen platform strategy at QPHI, integrating large-scale participant recruitment, deep phenotyping, and clinical-grade genomics to support scientific discovery, translational research, and measurable public health impact. |
