In a collaboration between Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) and Qatar Genome, an annual grant scheme under the name Pathway Towards Precision Medicine (PPM) was launched in 2015 to support local researchers working on genomics and precision medicine.
QPHI is currently working on establishing the Disease Genomics Database (DGD) to allow data sharing and empowerment of genomic research and discovery related to diseases of national priority in Qatar and the region.
QPHI partnered with the Department of Genetic Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, the Diagnostic Genomic Division at Hamad Medical Corporation as well as the Sidra research team at Sidra Medicine to facilitate the development of the first Qatari gene chip.
QPHI started a project on reporting wellness and lifestyle traits based on analyzing whole genome sequencing data of QPHI participants. Wellness and lifestyle reports include 29 different traits related to body weight, response to diet and eating behavior, food reactions, exercise, and metabolic health factors.
